100 Best Communities in America Award

Milford's Promise was the catalyst in completing and submitting the 100 Best application to Washington, D.C. for four consecutive years. The application process involved interviewing all youth servicing agencies in the community including the school system and compiling all of the wonderful ways Milford is committed to youth.

Each year over 2000 applications are submitted from communities across America explaining how they are committed to the 5 Promises and why they feel they should be named one of the "100 Best Communities in America for Young People". Milford was entered into a Hall of Fame where we assist other communities with their application. This honor was bestowed on the entire City of Milford and this seal can be used until the end of 2015 by all youth servicing agencies in the community.

Please feel free to contact, to learn how you can add this seal to your website or printed material.

Join us for the Ambassadors of Respect Celebration at Milford City Hall
June 2015

photo1-23-800-600-80Have you ever driven around town and noticed banners in/on all of the schools that say "Milford, Where Respect Shines?" This is a Milford's Promise initiative that has been in existence for the past fourteen years! Each May we celebrate National Respect Month in all schools citywide Grades K-12. The Respect Campaign is a popular program in the schools, and the impact is effective and long-lasting.

New ideas and projects are integrated year to year, but the packets always include a calendar that is shared with all students throughout the month of May. This calendar offers students ideas on how to be respectful each day in May. Many teachers use the quotes and ideas shared on the calendar as discussion points or projects in their classrooms. Throughout May students nominate each other as "Stars of Respect" in each classroom. The Stars are nominated by their peers for exemplifying Respect in their school.

All Stars of Respect are honored at a school assembly and receive a Certificate of Recognition from Milford's Promise. From that large group, the Principals of each school then identifies four "Ambassadors of Respect" to represent their school at a citywide Annual Respect Celebration at City Hall. At this prestigious celebration, the Ambassadors are honored by the Mayor and Superintendent of Schools with a plaque and photo.

It is such a special occasion and we look forward to it every year. It has become such a prestigious honor in the schools, that the students work hard all year in an effort to earn this achievement. To culminate the Milford's Promise Respect Campaign Month, all Stars of Respect, Ambassadors of Respect and Milford's Promise Board Members march in the Memorial Day parade proudly wearing "Milford Where Respect Shines" t-shirts. With 150-200 students marching each year, we often joke that we are the Memorial Day parade. Be sure to come see us this year at the parade!

We will work with you to see which program best fits your availability. Our program provides structured activities focused on improving academic ability and increasing self esteem. Mentor one child and change two lives, theirs... and your own.
